MIX Ypsilanti is excited to host a Frederick Birkhill art exhibit for the month of May, 2016
A lifelong resident of Southeastern Michigan, Frederick Birkhill is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University (B.S.), The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (B.F.A.), College for Creative Studies and has also studied in Europe and within The United States with numerous artists. He is an independent studio artist known internationally for his work in glass. His current focus is Egg Tempera painting. His work can be found in numerous museums: Museum of Art and Design, The Detroit Institute of Arts, The Corning Museum of Glass, as well as in many private collections around the world.
Having focused primarily on glass as an artistic medium for most of his career, Frederick Birkhill has returned to his love of photography; this time, using photo realism represented in Egg Tempera* painting… an ancient medium. One never knows what image will catch his eye to inspire him. * EGG TEMPERA (Italian) …is a permanent, fast drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium, in this case the yolk of an egg. Tempera paintings are long lasting. Paintings done in the 1st Century A.D. still exist.
